What to do if your kids have symptoms

First things first, keep them home until you can get tested, or you want to keep them home for the 14 day isolation period.

You can get a test if you are:

  • Showing COVID-19 symptoms

  • Have been exposed to a confirmed case of the virus, as informed by your public health unit or exposure notification through the COVID Alert app;

  • A resident or work in a setting that has a COVID-19 outbreak, as identified and informed by your local public health unit; and

  • Eligible for testing as part of a targeted testing initiative directed by the Ministry of Health or the Ministry of Long-Term Care.

You do not need a referral to get a test and you do not need a health card, but if you have one please bring it with you.

When can your child go back to school

There are two ways that kids can go back to school.

  1. When a child gets swabbed, they will need to wait for the result. In order to return to school, they need to have a negative test and be symptom free for 24 hours

  2. If a child does not get swabbed, then the child needs to self isolate for 14 days, and be symptom free for 24 hours prior to returning to school.
